They’re killing Disney World

It’s hard to not see it anymore. It’s hard to look past the decisions made time and time again that focus on short term profitability at the expense of quality. This is no longer about a COVID-based downturn, but instead about people running WDW that plainly don’t give a shit.

If you didn’t see the news today, Disney World basically let all the shows that matter die by firing cast and crew. Hoop-dee-doo, Finding Nemo, Legends of Hollywood, Monsters Inc Laugh Floor, even Festival of the Lion King; all ended today across the resort.

But this poison entered the ground well before COVID impacted Orlando. The Muppets Great Moments in American History, Pixarmonic Orchestra, Mickey and the Red Car Newsboys (at Disneyland), and talking Mickey at Town Square Theater are just the others that come to mind. These are cuts to entertainment that made WDW feel special, like so much more than being a Cedar Fair amusement park, that drew in people like me and my family to spend thousands of dollars, invest in annual passes, sign up for DVC timeshare and more.

But they are killing, or have killed, that magic. The answer to why is pretty clear: those things COST money without a clear revenue generating aspect.

My family is going on a previously-scheduled trip to WDW on Nov 5 for five days, and I am incredibly curious to see how different things feel, how much is missing from the atmosphere, how the spirits of the cast members that are left have been affected. Expect to see lots of posts, pictures, and videos here!
